The first scrimmage of the season went very well for the Gator Varsity team! Our three defenders, McSweeney ('10), Harlan ('11), and Budi ('12) rarely let the ball pass the 50 yard line. They were quick and came close to scoring a few times! Our midfielders transfered the ball well between offense and defense. Caudill ('12) really stepped it up in center mid and kept the ball moving! Our offense had a very successful game with 9 scores! In the first half, senior, Beach ('10) lead the score with 2 goals, assisted by senior captain, Zacharias ('10), and Phipps ('12). Curtin ('12) scored the final goal of the 20 minute first 1/3 of the game. The team was pumped for the second 1/3 of the game and came back strong. Curtin ('12) scored the first with an assist by Zacharias ('10). Zacharias turned right around to score another, assisted by freshman Puchalski ('13). Phipps ('12) scored the third goal of the period, assisted by classmate Curtin ('12). The final two goals of the 1/3 were scored by senior captain Zacharias ('10), the last of which was assisted by freshman midfielder, Puccinelli ('13). The final 1/3 of the game quieted down until the last few seconds when Albright ('11) took a hard shot at the corner of the goal to score the final point of the game. With 7 different scorers and assisters, this season is looking to be a bright one!
Our next scrimmage is Thursday, August 20th at St. Joseph's, 5:00pm, versus Varina High School's Varsity Team!
