SGHS @ Fredericksburg Academy, 0-4 First Defeat of the Season

The Gators traveled to Fredericksburg Academy yesterday to play last year's LIS Div. II champs with a 16-0 record. The first ten minutes started out shaky for the Varsity Gators, who let in 3 goals. Two goals were scored by Hazel #21, Fredericksburg's sophomore superstar. The third goal was scored by Sullivan #19, a junior on the Fredericksburg team. The Gators played hard the last 20 minutes of the half and kept the score 0-3. The second half remained scoreless until Hoffman #15 and Hazel #21 scored one last goal for Fredericksburg. Our defense and senior goalie really proved themselves in this more challenging situation. Wolpert ('10) our powerhouse senior goalie cleared 23 goals. Harlan ('11) had 7 defensive saves, senior captain McSweeney ('10) had 2 defensive saves, and Budi ('12) had 2 defensive saves. Freshmen Puchalski ('13) had a defensive save in midfield, as well as senior captain Zacharias ('10). Curtin ('12) had several close fastbreaks to goal and Zacharias ('10) controlled the midfield to keep the Gator team in check. McSweeney ('10) on fly position, kept Fredericksburg from getting a shot off on at least 15 short corners! Don't count these ladies out yet; we expect a strong showing in D.C. at the Fragile X Tournament this weekend!
